Campus Safety

I am sure that you would agree when we say that our children are the most precious global and personal resource. For this reason, you should not take chances when it comes to choosing the right school for your child. Boarding schools have long been considered to be of great value especially for those parents who want their children to stay in a disciplined and well-maintained atmosphere. These schools are a great resource for many students as they strive to attain positive, life-changing experiences. One of the most important components of school life is campus safety and security. While sending a child to boarding school can be the greatest step toward enriching personal development, it can be difficult to do. To be separated from one’s children is one of the fears that parents do not want to face by sending them to the boarding school. Allow us to address what we feel are a few key points:

Staff
With on-campus boarding, your child will be away from parental supervision and entrusted to the guidance of school staff. We at UIS recognize this and have taken measures to ensure the optimum care for your child. Two important factors contributing to the success of boarding safety are school size and a low student-to-teacher ratio. UIS consciously works to keep an intimate feel on campus, fostering communication, participation and caring. We want students and teachers to become familiar with each other, not the lost souls found wandering the halls of larger institutions.

UIS staff will also participate in comprehensive training, including first aid skills, specially designed for those caring for today’s youth. This is done in order to ensure that students remain safe at all times and around trained professionals in any times of need. Staff will be trained not only how to handle pertinent situations as they happen, but also to recognize troubled children. Likewise, students at UIS will be educated students to be responsible, self-sufficient, and preventative. Additionally, the student hostels will have live-in nurse caretakers to attend to students’ emotional, academic and overall wellness needs.

Violence
Violence has been something that is all too often turned a blind eye toward. It can be found on television, clothing designs, in movies, music, computer games, and online. It is time to stop glorifying negativity. Violence is not cool, and it certainly is not educational. It slowly erodes at and contradicts all other efforts to provide our children with both physical and mental health. Violence damages society while parents simultaneously attempt to raise well-rounded children. While the Internet can be a powerful educational tool, it can also undermine all that educators work toward. At UIS, we use a specially designed web filter, which prevents youngsters from accessing inappropriate virtual content. Students are encouraged to use wholesome online resources as UIS takes the first step to block negative sites. Positive change in today’s environment needs to be made. You can make it happen, and UIS can offer the support you need. We are firmly committed to building a holistic experience for all of our students.

Activities
With parents not at their side, some students may be tempted to test their independence. UIS is already prepared. Also knowing that idle hands can welcome undesired deeds, we are prepared to offer an array of activities outside of class up until curfew time. These co-curricular activities provide structure to the daily schedule and encourage immense personal growth in our youth. Activities serve as educational tools to build a sense of community for students during their time away from home. While supporting your child as he/she adapts to new experiences, these activities will also add to the student’s knowledge, build confidence and promote physical exercise. We believe engaging students in table tennis, badminton, tennis, swimming, football and other campus clubs can impart more than just getting to know fellow classmates. These activities equally provide a healthy, positive and fun way of keeping students out of trouble!

Technology
In addition to educational and dynamic events on campus, we use quite a bit of technology to offer added security. A closed-circuit video surveillance system will carefully monitor key areas, while well-lit public areas will offer your child increased reassurance that UIS is worthy of being called ‘home’. At the same time, each student will receive a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag serving as an attendance card, a key to enter electromagnetic locking doors on campus buildings and replaces the need for carrying cash on campus.

Visitation
Naturally, a system will be in place for those wishing to enter and exit campus. Picking up or the sending of students from the School to any other locations will not be permitted without prior parental or guardian arrangements having been made. Additionally, we protect the safety of our students by requiring visitation authorization through official communication with the students' parents or guardians. Failing to do so would result in an unwavering stand by the School’s management in not permitting such visits to take place. Security personnel will enforce this policy by monitoring campus activity 24 hours a day to ensure only authorised students, staff and guests are present. Moreover, UIS has strategically located itself away from the risks associated with hectic city life, specifically proposed for undistracted education and student safety. You can rest assured that you child is in the best hands possible throughout the entire UIS experience.
